Giovanni di Lorenzo is chief editor of the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”, co-publisher of “Tagesspiegel” in Berlin and host of the talk show “3 nach 9” at Radio Bremen.

His journalistic career started in 1979 at the newspaper “Neue Presse” in Hannover. And he has been working for “Schädelspalter”, a magazine of the city. He could make first experiences with TV at “Live aus Alabama”, a weekly youth-magazine of “Bayerischer Rundfunk”. From March 1984 on he was one of the hosts. In 1988 and 1989 he was hosting the cultural report of ARD live from the film festival in Munich. Since 1989 he is co-host of the TV talk show “3 nach 9”. From 1985 till 1986 he was consultant at the redesign of “Süddeutsche Zeitung” and “Münchner Stadtanzeiger”. In May 1987 di Lorenzo became a member of the editorial staff for internal political affairs of “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.

From May 1994 till end of 1998 he was chief of page 3 which showed large reports. At the beginning of 1999 he became chief editor of the daily newspaper “Der Tagesspiegel” in Berlin. Since August 2004 he is chief editor of the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit” by the publishing group of Georg von Holtzbrinck. He is also one of the two publishers of “Tagesspiegel”.
He has been given several awards – for example “Bambi” (1992), “Theodor-Wolff-Preis” (1993), “Hildegard-von-Bingen-Preis für Publizistik” (2007) and “Julius-Hirsch-Preis” (2009). “medium magazine” has rewarded Giovanni di Lorenzo as chief editor of the year in 2007.
