G+J Executive Director Stephan Schäfer on the unusual action taken by Hamburg’s publishing house to generate new ideas.

Stephan Schäfer, born in 1974, graduated from the Axel Springer School of Journalism before beginning his career in the politics division of «Bild» Zeitung. Following further positions at «Bild» and «Allegra» magazine, he became Deputy Editor-in-Chief of «Maxi» magazine in 2001, Editor-in-Chief three years later and finally publisher of the magazine in 2008. In 2009, he moved to Gruner + Jahr to become Editor-in-Chief of SCHÖNER WOHNEN. One year later, he was also appointed Editor-in-Chief of ESSEN & TRINKEN and architecture magazine HÄUSER. Soon after that, he successfully launched COUCH and DELI magazines on the market. In 2012, Stephan Schäfer moved to become Editor-in-Chief of the BRIGITTE group of titles and was subsequently appointed Managing Director of the corporate unit G+J LIFE. Today, Stephan Schäfer is Chief Product Officer with responsibility for the entire title and product portfolio (print and digital) of G+J as well as its sales.
