Chief Executive Officer
Julia Jäkel, born in 1971, studied history, political sciences and economics at Heidelberg, Harvard, and Cambridge Universities. Her career started in 1997 when she joined Bertelsmann’s Young Executive Program, which eventually led her to Gruner + Jahr. By the end of the 1990s, she was part of the founding team of Financial Times Deutschland, and in 2004 she took over the management of Brigitte magazine. By 2008 she was in charge of managing more than 20 print titles and digital magazine offers. Today she is the CEO – and her task is to reinvent and reposition Gruner + Jahr within a radically changing media landscape.
